Description
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Toronto is inviting  applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow position in machine learning, reinforcement learning and Markov  decision processes. The successful candidate will contribute to the project “AI enabled tools to reduce risks to first responders in responding to freight transportation fire incidents” supervised by Chi-Guhn Lee. The goal of the project is to develop tools to assist first responders to fire incidents using machine learning, data analytics and decision support methods.

 

Requirements
We are seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow candidate who holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields. Demonstrated knowledge in optimization in general with an emphasis on Markov decision processes, machine learning, 
reinforcement learning, Bayesian learning, and simulation-driven optimization. Excellent communication skills (Oral and writing).

 

Salary: range from $40,000 to $55,000

 

Expected start date: as soon as possible

 

Term: One-year term with a possible renewal

 

FTE: 100% FTE
 

Closing Date: July 9, 2021

 

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employees’ research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employees’ duties and hours of work.
